Which telescope is better? http://www.123binocular.com/342/which-telescope-is-better/ http://www.123binocular.com/342/which-telescope-is-better/#comments Fri, 03 Sep 2010 21:26:49 +0000 admin http://www.123binocular.com/342/which-telescope-is-better/

I love astronomy and I currently use the naked eye and binoculars to look at the sky. When I was younger I had a Meade but it has long since been exstinct. I am looking for something that can:
a) last me more than a year or two
b) be very portable and easily moved (such as on to a plane and in and out of a car’s trunk)
c) see more than just the nearest planets and the moon (even though I know I will need to upgrade the eyepiece to do so most effectively)
d) stay aligned without a lot of tinkering, a little will not bother me b/c it would be nice to learn how to fix the mirrors or whatever.
e) will be good for astrophotography (I am going to invest ina digital camera so everyone can see the things I see)
f) do the job for under $600 dollars

Right now I am looking at both the
Celestron NexStar 130 SLT Telescope
and
Celestron NexStar 102 SLT Telescope
I have read into both and they both seem to have great user reviews for the most part. They both contain most everything I am looking for in a scope so if anyone knows for a fact one is better than the other I would appreciate the heads up. Or if there is something better out there that I have overlooked please let me know!

Thanks

i have the celestron nexstar 130. its an excellent telescope. pretty easy to transport if your cars cleaned out. it has a great finder scope, good quality lenses, a sturdy tripod, and great computer capabilities. the only downer is that inorder for it to work on its motor, you have to either have 8 AAs or a dc adapter. i use a dc adapter becuase the AAs don’t last more than a few hours. it is completely motorized… and is controlled by the had controller. its a great buy. its on sale now for $439.

great for astrophotography if you have the adapter, but you probably already knew that. it stays aligned very well, and is easy to align in my opinion. it has a guide catologing over 4,000 celestrial objects including galaxies, planets, nebulas, and other deep space objects. its a great telescope, and a lot better than binoculars. you can easily see jupiter’s jet streams… saturn’s rings in detail… the andromeda galaxy… and very nice nebulas without having to google how to find them. simply input your city, state, time, date, and align it 1 of 3 possible ways, and your set! its really not that hard to do.

the reason why a lot of the meade telescopes don’t work is because they have that flawed short tube design which makes it hard to see deep sky objects. this telescope has a nice long body, and is extreamily easy to control. it has auto align like i said, and will even send you on a guided tour of the cosmos with celestrial objects that are in best visibility given the date, and your location.

i got it from telescopes.com. it came with 2 free software programs- one was made by celestron that was great as a companion when your out in the field doing astronomy. it showed the positions of planets, their orbits, and also showed pictures of galaxies and their positions so if you choose not to use the auto align, that software will point you in the right direction.

the other program was one where you could control you telescope from your computer. i use that on cold nights. i have a long chord (no chords for this are included but you can get one for only 25 bucks) and run it through my open window, and sit inside… turn the tv on, have a nice cup of tea, all while sitting on the couch and controlling my telescope. i also have a wireless web cam attached to it so i get the live view fed into my computer. if you just have the cable, you would still have to look through your telescope to get the view… the program only controlls it.

assembly is very straight forward. i had it hooked up and ready to go in less than 10 minutes. i am extreamily impressed, and satisified with this telescope.

What is the value of Carl Zeiss Jena Binoculars DF6x30 859832? http://www.123binocular.com/341/what-is-the-value-of-carl-zeiss-jena-binoculars-df6x30-859832/ http://www.123binocular.com/341/what-is-the-value-of-carl-zeiss-jena-binoculars-df6x30-859832/#comments Fri, 03 Sep 2010 21:26:30 +0000 admin http://www.123binocular.com/341/what-is-the-value-of-carl-zeiss-jena-binoculars-df6x30-859832/

I am trying to hold on to these binoculars until they are worth some money, and so far I think they may be only worth $10.00
They come in a leather case from the U.S. Naval Gun Factory / Optical Annex Shop in Rochester , NY. They are extremely old binoculars.

check e-bay. Maybe antique value is there.

They are far too weak to be used for astronomy so no one here will have a good answer for you.

“Cliff Licks” by Nutnfancy (‘Where The Air Is Thin’ Actual Pt 2) http://www.123binocular.com/340/cliff-licks-by-nutnfancy-where-the-air-is-thin-actual-pt-2/ http://www.123binocular.com/340/cliff-licks-by-nutnfancy-where-the-air-is-thin-actual-pt-2/#comments Wed, 01 Sep 2010 11:05:14 +0000 admin http://www.123binocular.com/340/cliff-licks-by-nutnfancy-where-the-air-is-thin-actual-pt-2/

Cliffiside herds of mountain goats provide entertainment as the morning begins. I’d planned to launch our summit hike early but filming these fascinating mountain dwellers on camera became our priority. Much film time is provided in this continuation of our “Where The Air Is Thin” adventure (Part 2). Billies, moms, and kids open their morning grazing and foraging the meadow below and then move up to amazing some stunning cliffside areas as the morning progresses and more hikers move into the basin. Apparently the cliffs tastes pretty good to them as well too: salty mineral deposits high above give some needed nutrition (horn, hoof development). Allie the Mountain Dog is enthralled with our goats friends but I keep her nearby as we stalk closer for better footage. The deep blue sky provides a stunning backdrop to the talus mountains and our glacier as we capture the experience on camera. Finally we do a little camp maintenance, pack up the tent and bags, and then are underway for the hike. With a huge blister on my foot (pain) and Allie limping from left paw abrasion, I’m not convinced we can make it but we are determined to try. About 15 miles of hard hiking awaits us and we will hike until midnight. This was Day Two of my “Where the Air is Thin” high mountain adventure, thanks for coming along! ///////////////////////////// Great Music from a great TNPr, used with specific permission: www.youtube.com/user/bryanisms

which binoculars should i buy? http://www.123binocular.com/337/which-binoculars-should-i-buy/ http://www.123binocular.com/337/which-binoculars-should-i-buy/#comments Wed, 01 Sep 2010 02:35:46 +0000 admin http://www.123binocular.com/337/which-binoculars-should-i-buy/

i am extremely interested in astronomy and i am currently saving up for a expensive telescope. i dont know which one yet but i do know i am going to spend £250- 500 on it. ( i feel expensive means better)
now, i have read some where its good to own a binoculars too if you like astronomy.
i bought a celestron binoculars which was 10X50. i was told its is very good since it has good focus and you dont need a tripod. but recently it fuked up, and i returned and got my money back. i was wondering if anyone could recommend me some good binoculars which is intended for people like me. which are, to be honest, dont know alot about the instruments and are just facinated about space.
or should i just buy the same one.
thank you in advance

The larger the objective lens the dimmer the stars you will be able to make out provided there is no light pollution, which unfortunately there probably is. There are binoculars make specifically for astronomical observation, but the tend to be very heavy and without a tripod extremely difficult to hold steady. 10×50 is a good set that is not too expensive not too tiring to hold. It is too bad you had a bad experience with Celestron. Mead makes a pair of 9×63 for about $80 in the US. I do not know if they are available in the UK. Kind of heavy at 44 oz. About 1 kg.

Nikon makes a pair of 10×50 for about $90.00. They generally have a good reputation. Weigh about 10 oz less than the above pair.
